Insiders tell Us Reese Witherspoon’s marriage to Jim Toth has become one of convenience — and that their picture perfect union isn’t what it seems.
Reese Witherspoon and husband Jim Toth are more concerned with keeping up appearances than saving their broken marriage, insiders say. Find out what’s next for the longtime couple.

Reese Witherspoon is one busy lady. So far this year, she’s already produced eight movies and TV series, including Where the Crawdads Sing and the hit new show From Scratch. In August, she began shooting the third season of Apple TV+’s The Morning Show alongside Jennifer Aniston, and her new rom-com, Your Place or Mine (costarring Ashton Kutcher), arrives on Netflix in February. The Oscar winner, 46, has managed to do it all while also juggling motherhood, her fashion line and her wildly popular book club.
Something’s gotta give — and according to sources, it’s her 11year marriage to former talent agent Jim Toth, 52. The sources tell Us the pair — who are parents to Tennessee, 10, and who co-owned Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine production company prior to its sale for nearly $1 billion in 2021 — are all but over and have become more like business partners than lovers in recent years. “They live very separate lives and sleep in separate rooms,” says one insider, adding that although their partnership “is still very strong, the romance just isn’t there anymore.”

DRIFTING AWAY
Date nights aren’t high on their to-do lists. “Reese and Jim both are more focused on their careers than each other,” notes the insider. There’s a lot of overlap, with Toth putting a ton of money into Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, which she still has an 18 percent stake in. “The success of Hello Sunshine has been a bonding factor for them,” says a second insider. “Jim was seriously invested in it, even when nobody believed it would work.” But it’s also caused some distance. “Early in their relationship, Reese made one movie a year,” says the insider. With her current nonstop schedule, “they spend more time apart.” Son Tennessee is a uniting force. (Witherspoon also shares Ava, 23, and Deacon, 19, with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.) “He gets a ton of attention from both parents and his half-siblings, and he lives like a little prince,” says the insider. “They love raising Tennessee together,” adds the first insider, “and they love their family.”
Outside of that, they no longer have a ton in common. The second insider says that Toth changed when his business venture Quibi shut down just six months after its 2020 launch. “During the pandemic, following the collapse of Quibi, Jim’s penchant for wacky clothes, jewelry and tattoos exploded,” says the insider. “He’s become more of a wild man, while Reese has become more conservative. Jim loves that he doesn’t really have to participate in the rat race anymore, and Reese loves the grind and making things happen.”
BUSINESS DECISION
For now, the setup is working for them. “This partnership has made both of them a ton of money,” says the second insider. Witherspoon is currently worth an estimated $400 million “This is not a couple who can’t keep their hands off each other — but they’re very serious about their businesses together and making it all work.”
The first insider says there’s a possibility they could officially separate down the line — but not in the immediate future. “It doesn’t seem to be in the cards for them just yet,” the insider explains. “Reese is happy about her production company and her Draper James line. Things are going well for her, and she’s satisfied and fulfilled.”
