CORNERED like a caged animal, former President Donald Trump has turned on the woman who stood by him through thick and thin for 18 years — former First Lady Melania Trump — and they’re both miserable in the marriage, according to sources.
But neither is willing to slap their spouse with divorce papers, spies say, and that’s making matters worse as they go out of their way to avoid each other!
“Donald and Melania live virtually separate lives, but lately the former president is lashing out at anyone who gets under his skin — and often that’s Melania!” snitches a source.
They’ve been at each other’s throats in a way they haven’t been for years. From Donald’s point of view, he’s gotten little to no support from his wife as his world crumbles around him — while Melania wonders why she should suddenly care after they’ve lived apart for so long.
“It’s a toxic situation that’s only bound to get worse!”
As sources previously dished, Donald, 76, and Melania, 52, have lived separate lives for years, can barely stomach each other, spend almost ZERO time in each other’s company and sleep in different bedrooms. Insiders say Trump spends his time golfing and holding court in the Mar-a-Lago main dining room while Melania raises their 16-year-old son, Barron, and takes twice daily treatments at the Florida resort’s spa.
Trump’s brutal current outbursts come as he faces mounting legal pressure and worsening political fortunes.
Recently, the House Select Committee on Jan. 6 referred him to the Justice Department for prosecution on four criminal charges — including conspiring to defraud the U.S. and assisting or engaging in insurrection!
Trump also faces a Georgia grand jury report on allegations he tried to tamper with the 2020 presidential election vote tally in that state, a federal probe into claims he mishandled classified documents, and TWO investigations in New York regarding his business dealings and alleged financial fraud.
As his opponents sharpen their knives, Trump remains hunkered down at his resort — having barely left the grounds since Nov. 15, when he announced his run for a second term in the White House.
His poll numbers have cratered to their lowest levels since July 2015, which insiders insist stings his huge ego.
“Donald is increasingly irritable and looking for any excuse to go ballistic on anyone around him. It doesn’t take much to set him off at this point,” squeals a mole. “He feels like he’s being attacked from all sides, and his nature dictates that he should attack back. That, unfortunately, has led to some epic fights with Melania!”
However, insiders claim the pair will never divorce.
“It may be tempting,” says an insider, “but he’ll never do it so long as he still has an eye on the White House. It would be too damaging politically and would shake his support among fundamentalist Christians.”
She’s stuck, too. Apparently, their prenup is unshakable although the rumor is she negotiated better terms before moving from Manhattan to Washington, D.C., after he won the presidency in 2016. If she really wants Donald’s fortune, she’ll have to wait until he dies.
