THE Vatican has set up a crack team of miracle detectives to investigate more than 100 mysterious, supernatural happenings around the world — including weeping statues of Mary, ghosts and stigmata — to discover if the incidents are real!

According to the Vatican, Pontifical Marian International Academy (PAMI) sleuths have been dispatched to “evaluate and study apparitions and mystical phenomena across the globe,”which finances the scientific probes.

PAMI investigators say they recently exposed scammer Gisella Cardia — a 53-year-old Italian woman accused of fleecing followers over miraculous claims that a statue of Jesus’ mother Mary in Trevignano, near Rome, wept tears of blood.

Cardia also claimed to predict the COVID pandemic and insisted she could magically make portions of gnocchi and pizza multiply, the detectives say.

Followers showered Cardia with cash, but she fled before the PAMI commission exposed her scam by discovering the statue’s bloody tears actually came from a pig!

Weeping statues are a common claim in devout Roman Catholic communities.

Investigators are currently looking into stories a Virgin Mary figurine shed tears in Acapulco, Mexico, in 2017, and a 2018 incident at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, in Hobbs, N.M., where a statue of the Madonna leaked olive oil. That same year, an image of the Virgin Mary in Argentina was claimed to be weeping tears of blood.

Meanwhile, claims a statue of the Virgin of the Mystic Rose in Italy is performing miracles — including eliminating a three-inch tumor in a woman who visited the shrine — are also being probed.

PAMI official Rev. Emilio Roggio notes the COVID crisis also saw a huge spike in reported demonic possessions and requests for exorcisms because it made “people more vulnerable to the idea that Satan or some evil entity has taken over. People have fallen into poverty and are suffering from anxiety and depression. They feel that their lives are in the hands of a malign force. It’s a big crisis.”
