If there’s anything we know about the Kardashian-Jenner family, it’s that they’re often being called out for their controversial behavior. While the famous bunch’s die-hard fans usually find nothing wrong with the way they live their lives, many people can’t help but put the reality stars on blast for their problematic actions — especially their long-running theme o f cultural appropriation.
Recently, Khloé Kardashian came under fire for this exact issue, and it’s far from the first time this has happened to her.
The Good American founder can be seen rocking a custom gold ensemble complete with a gold cape, bejeweled headpiece, black bob, and winged eyeliner. At the same time, the Cleveland Cavaliers player dressed the part of the Roman general in a chest plate, metal skirt, crown, and warrior helmet.
The couple’s 2-year-old daughter also took part in the fun by dressing up as a royal toddler, rocking a pleated gold dress adorned with wings on her shoulders.
“♔ Cleopatra ♔♔ Mark Antony ♔♔ Royal Highness True ♔,” Kardashian captioned the family photos from the holiday, noting that all of their gilded outfits were custom-made by Bryan Hearns.
After the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star shared the photos on social media, many people hit the comments to share their reactions toward her family’s glamorous Halloween costumes.
Among commenters was Kardashian-Jenner matriarch Kris Jenner, who gushed over how good the Revenge Body host looked in her costume. Kardashian’s BFF Malika Haqq also chimed in and commented, “AMAZING.”
Though many people were big fans of Kardashian’s Cleopatra ensemble, others expressed their disapproval of the look and even accused the reality star of “cultural appropriation.”
Fans accuse Kardashian of appropriating the Egyptian culture
Critics did not waste time slamming Kardashian for appropriating the Egyptian culture with her Cleopatra costume.
While many social media users didn’t have a problem calling Kardashian out for her costume, others came to her defense, noting that people of all different ethnic backgrounds have been dressing up as Cleopatra for years.
“We have been wearing these types of costumes for years and years since I was a little girl and I’m in my 40s,” one person wrote. “Now it’s a problem for all of you sensitive sheep. It’s Halloween. Get over yourself.”
Kardashian herself has yet to weigh in on the matter.
Kardashian has been criticized before
Getting called out for appropriating another culture is nothing new for Kardashian.
Back in August 2020, the reality star came under fire for wearing cornrows while on vacation in Turks and Caicos, with many noting that the style has been associated with the African culture for centuries.
A few years prior, Kardashian was called out for posting a photo on Instagram of herself wearing Bantu knots, which is another hairstyle made popular by the black culture.
While it seems like Kardashian hasn’t learned much from her ongoing issue with cultural appropriation, hopefully, these upcoming years will give her a greater understanding of the groups and people that they might be offended by her fashion choices.
